Lesson 1. The communication channel and its objectives
Communication is the act of sending a message from one point to another. It can also be defined as the exchange of information from a sender to a receiver through a medium or channel. Communication comes in several forms, including verbal or oral, written, electronic, non-verbal, talking drum, and symbols usage.
Communication has four basic objectives. Any person who desires to establish a communication with another person has any of these four objectives in mind. They are:
1) To be received
2) To be understood
3) To be accepted
4) To get action.
To be Received.
This objective is perceived by the sender when he/she has in mind that the message being send has to reach the receiver without any interruption. Any obstacle made will be assumed that the message did not reach its destination.
To be understood.
This objective is assumed when the sender hopes that the receiver will decode the meaning of the message and come to understand the essence of the message. If it is not understood, then it is assumed that the message was not decoded well.
To be accepted.
This objective is assumed that the receiver must acknowledge that the message which has been received is complete, carries a task and it demands a reply in which the receiver must do a follow-up on it.
To get action.
Finally, after the third objective is met, the receiver gives a feedback to the sender to complete the communication channel or process. This is when it can be said that the communication is complete.
Questions to answer.
Lesson 2 ( Non-verbal Communication Cues )
Nonverbal communication is the type of communication which does not involve the use of human voice, but the involvement of our body parts to communicate or express our thoughts, ideas and feelings.
Usually, the communication we do has 80% being accounted as all being non verbals. The remaining 20% are only verbals. For this reason, we can understand people more through the interpretation of their non verbal actions they do by the use of the body parts.
